Tropical Resort was born in 2008 on the secluded shores of Puerto Rico’s southwest coast, when founder Andrew Ramirez—a lifelong traveler, conservationist, and proud Boricua—discovered an untouched stretch of coastline near Cabo Rojo. Determined to share its beauty without compromising its magic, he envisioned a resort that celebrated the island’s natural splendor while offering world-class hospitality. Working with local artesanos, the first ten villas were built by hand using sustainable materials like reclaimed mahogany from hurricane-felled trees and coral stone quarried in Aguadilla. Today, what began as Andrew’s passion project has blossomed into a Top 10 Sustainable Resort (Travel + Leisure, 2023), still family-run and rooted in its original mission: to protect paradise while inviting guests to experience Puerto Rico’s wonders.
